A Burning Hell

As Christians and evangelists we can get desensitized to the reality of hell. This is because we hear it so much. But today God is wanting to restore the reality and truth about hell. We need to have a correct understanding about hell for a few reasons. The First reason is so we do not go there. Second, you will be more thankful for your salvation. Third, you will fear God which will cause you not to backslide. Fourth, a good understanding of hell will make you a better evangelist for Jesus. It will give you an urgency and will cause you to get out of your comfort zone and continue to be a witness your entire life.

What was hell created for?

Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.

But Heaven was prepared for humans

John 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. (Sadly the great majority give up their inheritance due to disobedience).

What is hell, hades, and Sheol?

: A. Hades- the underground abode of the dead (It is the waiting place until the resurrection) The resurrection of the just and the unjust

B. Hell- a nether world in which the dead continue to exist : HADES

C. : Hell- the nether realm of the devil and the demons in which condemned people suffer everlasting punishment

Where is it located? The Center of the Earth Ezekiel 26:19-21 19For thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall make thee a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon thee, and great waters shall cover thee; 20When I shall bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set thee in the low parts of the earth, in places desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that thou be not inhabited; and I shall set glory in the land of the living; 21I will make thee a terror, and thou shalt be no more: though thou be sought for, yet shalt thou never be found again, saith the Lord GOD.

Matthew 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Acts 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

Jesus went to hell. But what part of hell did he go to? I believe he went to Abraham's bosom. Why do I believe that Jesus went to Abraham’s bosom and not the fiery hell? Because even though he said that He would be in the belly of the earth for three days. He told the thief on the cross that he would be with him in paradise this very day. Also, before Jesus died He said “it is finished”. If He had to go get some keys from the devil in hell then it wouldn’t have been finished.

Is all sin punished equally? No The bible teaches that there are different amounts of wrath depending on what you did in your life.

Matthew 23:14 14Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

Matthew 10:15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

John 19:11 11Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.

Hebrews 10:28 mentions “Of how much worse punishment do you suppose will he be thought worthy who have trampled the Son of God underfoot. (This offers us the knowledge that some will be punished worse than others.)

Matthew 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Also in Matthew 23:23 Jesus told the pharisees that they have omitted the weightier matters of the law insinuating that there are parts of the law that are more important. And lastly, romans 2 talks about storing up the revelation of the wrath of God by sinning and judging others for the same thing. This proves that those who sin more are going to get more wrath. Not all sins are equal and hell will have more severe punishment for some than others.)

What is hell like?

Always screaming  Matthew 13:41-43 41The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; 42And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

NOONE GETS OUT Job 7:9 9As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. 10He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

NO AIR TO BREATHE IN HELL - SUFFOCATING FOREVER  ISAIAH 42:5 5Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: (In hell is the worst odors you can imagine. It is the smell of burnt flesh and sulfur (brimstone).

NO REST IN HELL Revelation 14:9-12 9And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive hismark in his forehead, or in his hand, 10The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. 12Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Psalm 127:2 2It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

Isaiah 57:19-20 19I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.20But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. 21There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked. (No Peace)

YOUR WORM WILL NEVER DIE AND THE FIRE WILL NEVER BE QUENCHED

Isaiah 66:24 And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

Job 24:19-20 19Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so doth the grave those which have sinned. 20The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.

TORMENTING FEAR IN HELL PSALM 73:18-19 18Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction. 19How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

No Hope in Hell Isaiah 38:18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

Where do the people go from hell? To the lake of fire  When? At the resurrection after they are judged.

1And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. 4And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. 7And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. 10And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

The Final Judgment 11And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
