The Doctrine of the Trinity / Godhead

Our Prayer and Hope:

Ephesians 1:17 “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.”

We pray and hope this teaching will help bring the knowledge of the Godhead/Trinity to you. The God of the Bible is One God existing in three separate persons. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. You will see this truth confirmed all throughout the scripture. This teaching is meant to highlight the more direct scriptures on this subject.

This is a salvational issue:

2 John 1:9-11 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed. 11For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

(If you do not believe that God the Father raised Jesus from the dead you cannot be saved. That’s why this doctrine does not line up with scripture.)

John 5:24 Verily, verily,Isayuntoyou,Hethathearethmyword, andbelievethonhim that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. (Jesus says you must believe on Him who sent Him in order to pass from death unto life)

Romans 4:23-24 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

The Bible talks about Two Thrones in Heaven:

Revelation 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. (Again, Jesus makes a distinction between His throne and the Father’s throne.)

Revelation 22:3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him. (According to this verse the throne of God and of the lamb will be in the new Jerusalem.)

Colossians 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. (Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God)- Acts 7:56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. (Now we see Jesus standing at the right hand of God the Father at the stoning of Steven. Again, this is after the ascension back to heaven.)

God is three separate witnesses:

John 8:17-18 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. 18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. (Jesus is saying that the Father is a seperate witness. So the Father along with Christ makes two witnesses.)

1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. (To say that Christ is the Father is to say There are one that bear record in heaven, and this one is the One. But that is not what it says.)

Matthew 3:16-17 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. (The Father is bearing witness of the Son in this scene. This scene includes the 3 witnesses of the Trinity.)

John 1:1 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.(Jesus is not a created being! He made all things with the Father before the World began. Jesus is not God the Father, Jesus is God the Son.)

God calls Himself Us and Wez;

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. (The scripture says Let Us Make man in our image and our likeness. We know He wasn’t talking to the angels because they are not in His image.)

John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. (The Father and the Son come and make their Home with us, not just the Son.)

John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

3 Separate Consciousnesses

Mark13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. (In order for the Father to know something that the son does not, they must have separate consciousnesses)

John 16:2 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. (He is saying, apart from Christ the Father Himself loves you.)

1 John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. ( This was written after the resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. In order to have fellowship with the Father and the Son there must be a Father and a Son.)

Romans 8:26 26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Jesus is the only way to the Father:

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. (You cannot be your own mediator. A mediator is someone who comes in from the outside to mediate between two parties.)

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: (According to all the Scriptures, the purpose of the sacrifice of Christ was not to bring us only to Christ, but to bring us to the Father)

Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. (All through Scripture it talks about coming to God through Christ. To intercede means to pray on behalf of another. He is praying to the Father. Everyone prays to the Father. You never see an instance of the Father praying to Jesus but we do see Jesus praying to the Father. Also, Colossians 3:17 says, And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.)

Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Jesus offered Himself to the Father that we might serve the Father)

1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. (He is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ)

Explaining the Oneness of God from Scripture

John 17:20-23 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: 23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. (Jesus was not praying to Himself. He is praying to the Father asking that His disciples would be one with God as THEY are one. This is the will of God.)

Jesus was with the Father in Eternity Past:

Hebrews 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. ( The Father speaks to the Son and calls Him God. In order to be God you must be eternal! He was not calling Himself God. He was calling Jesus God.)

John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. (If the Father became Jesus when He came to the earth, then how did they have glory together before the world was? The only explanation is obvious, that they had to be together before the world was.)

Micah 5:2 2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Other Scriptures proving the Godhead:

1 Corinthians 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. (This is the prayer of our Lord Jesus Christ. That we may know the only True God, and the Lord Jesus Christ whom was sent.)

Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. (The Resurrected Jesus is claiming His Father as His God. He is not deceiving us. Jesus is not the Father.)

2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. (Paul includes the Godhead in His closing statement.)

Psalms 110:1 The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. (Who is God telling to sit at His right hand. We know that the Father is telling Jesus to sit at His right hand until He makes His enemies His footstool.)

Explanation of Oneness (Jesus only) verses taken out of Context

John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? (We know that Jesus is not calling Himself the Father because John 1:18 makes it clear that no man has seen the Father at any time. So when He says if you have seen me you have seen the Father He is speaking spiritually. He is explaining that He has the Character of the Father. He says whatever I see the Father do, that I also do. He goes onto explain it in the next verse.

John 14:10 says,”Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” So you see, because the Father is in Him through the Holy Spirit Philip should know Him by now. Furthermore, Jesus explains this in Matthew 10:20:”For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.”)

Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.(First we must understand the definition of the Godhead is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. This verse is explaining the fact that all three dwell in the Body of Jesus. The Father and the Holy Ghost both fully dwell in Jesus. Again, to say that this means that Jesus is the Father and the Holy Ghost is adding to scripture. It does not say that!!!)

John 10:30 I and my Father are one. (John 10:28 says no one can snatch them out of my hand. Then in verse 29 says no one can snatch them from my Father’s hand. And then I and the Father are one. He makes the distinction and then says we are one.)- Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: ( We agree with this verse and believe in One God as it says in 1 Corinthians 8:6 “But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.” And these three are ONE.)
